Campsites near La Rochelle

My partner and I are planning a trip to La Rochelle in July, we want to take our tent rather than staying in a mobile home, but can%26#39;t seem to find any campsites that are suitable. Any help, advice or guidance would be much appreciated!

Not sure what you mean by %26quot;suitable%26quot; but you could check out somewhere like Camping **** Les Sables, which is a few miles south of the city. My wife, two children and I stayed there last summer. We opted for a mobile home but there are tent pitches available, too. The place is well equipped with clean toilets and showers, laundry, cafe, shop (basics only) and a fantastic pool with slides etc., which the kids had to be dragged away from to venture into La Rochelle itself. There are some other sites in the vicinity. See http://www.camping-les-sables.com

Hi,

I read your post and wondered if you ever found a good campsite near La Rochelle. My partner and myself are planning to take our tent to France in July and want to be able to sample some of the restaurants in La Rochelle and not have to stay too far away. We are not interested in a big camping park like the response below which seems to have flumes galore. We%26#39;d rather have a smaller site with good amenities (and as few children as possible!).

My husband and I had several camping holidays in France before we bought our house just outside Cognac, 3 years ago. We used the Mitchelin Camp Site Book which was quite good. However we found that most of the sites tended to be outside the towns and required using the car. However, it is worth looking out for the Municipal Sites which tend to be locate in the town itself, they are very good value and tend to be clean (if basic), and well run. We always looked out for them and preferred to stay on one if at all possible.

My husband and I are looking for a nice scenic campsite for our motorhome near La Rochelle in September 08. Does anyone have any recommendations or know of any difficulties with taking a motorhome to La Rochelle please?

Equally if we found a nice mobile home/cabin in the area that%26#39;d be great too - any recommendations?

Many thanks x
