St Tropez 29 Sept to 7 Oct

If you are thinking of visiting St Tropez during these dates please be aware that the Regatta is taking place at that time. Now whilst it is a great opportunity to see some of the most beautiful yachts (sailing) possible it is also the most busy week of the year. It makes August seem deserted! Parking will be horrendous, if at all possible. If you want to eat in a restaurant book now.

Just letting you know.

Hi JBart,

I am going to St Tropez on 1Oct from St Raphael. Actually plan to rent a car and drive there cos didn%26#39;t expect to have traffic jams in month of Oct. Will there be traffic jams along the road from St Raphael to St Tropez? If I go there early in the morning around 10am will it be better? Thanks.

They start racing about 11am. I would imagine that the road will probably be OK until you turn onto the D98 into St Tropez but I am not sure. From there you might well crawl inti St Tropez. Also parking at the big car park near the port will be difficult BUT if you can get through all of that the yachts that will be there are so beautiful especially the ones dating back to the early 1900s.

I think you can also take boats trips out to follow the races. Have a great day.

Thanks for your advise. I am still considering to drive or take boat there. Is St Tropez walkable? for example I take boat there and walk around town of st tropez, is it possible? Maybe I will drive there earlier around 8am to beat the crowd.

St Tropez is small and very easy to walk around. Most visitors just drive to the port car park and leave their car there. Driving in the town itself is a nightmare, tiny streets that are one-way.

Hi,

Are the dates the same this year?

Thinking of booking a week from sunday to sunday, 21st to 28th of sept.

Thanks in advance

For 2008, the Voiles de St Tropez yachting event takes place Sep 27 to Oct 5.

I don%26#39;t want to discourage anyone from going. The wooden sailboats in particular make for a fantastic show as they glide in the bay of St Tropez with old-world elegance and class.

A few tips for those planning to go:

Road traffic will be horrendous on those days, especially between Ste Maxime and St Tropez.

You can catch the ferry boat from Ste Maxime. See web site for %26quot;Les Bateaux Verts ferries at http://www.bateauxverts.com. They also offer a tour on regatta day that gets a little closer to the racing yachts (but not necessarily close enough... bring binoculars %26amp; hope your camera has strong zoom).

If you%26#39;re comfortable driving a scooter, you can rent one to skirt traffic. Be safe!

Get there very early, as in by 8AM. And then leave before regatta is done as return traffic gets just as bad.

Good overall view of bay and regatta is half-way up to Citadelle. Again, you%26#39;ll need binoculars for details. Other spot will be along pier, where everyone else will be. If windy, you%26#39;ll get a bit wet there (but won%26#39;t care given the excitement!)

I posted pics of the 2006 and 2007 Voiles de St Tropez on azuralive.com/2006/10/a_day_in_les_vo.html

Enjoy!
