1st time to Paris and Italy - question on Eurail pass

Never been to Europe and plan to go next year. Starting to dream about Paris....Venice, Florence and Rome.

I was looking at the Eurail website for the Italy rail pass and also the overnight train from Paris to Venice. According to the website, we could get a discounted fare for the overnight train fare with an Eurail pass. Since we plan to purchase only the eurail pass for one country, Italy, does it mean the pass is validated in Paris, France before we board the overnight train in Paris?

Any advice regarding the train trips for these four cities would be appreciated. Thanks.
