D-Day Beaches tour suggestions

Hello everyone,

My partner and I will be in Normandy from June 2nd - June 6th and unfortunately have missed out on gaining a place on the Battlebus and are now desperately trying to get suggestions of other reputable companies we could go with.

If anyone has any suggestions at this late hour (given the time of year we%26#39;re visiting at) or even hints on self-drive tours and spots we must hit - I%26#39;d greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks in advance,

LM

Do a search here on the forum. There have been several threads of late, and more than one mentioned other tour companies other than Battlebus.

I think you may be out of luck. My husband is doing a tour for guests of ours that week who tried everywhere without luck to get a tour. However, one very good company who has helped out with last minute bookings before is Normandy Sightseeing Tours at www.normandywebguide.com. They may be able to help either with one of their organised tours or a private tour.

Do a %26#39;guided tour%26#39; by all means, BUT if you can%26#39;t book on one, don%26#39;t be afraid of hiring a car and going it alone. Although it will be busy at that time of year, driving in France is not that bad. The beaches, museums and other sites are all well signposted.

Forum searches will give you good advice. There are good websites about the Normandy Beaches and D-Day for lots of other info.

My main sites would be:

Arromanches - Mulberry Harbour

Pegasus Bridge

Gold Beach

Sword Beach

(Aussies might like Juno Beach!)

Caen War Memorial Museum (gets LOADS of good press here, tho I have yet to visit)

Why would aussies like Juno? It was a Canadian beach.

Sorry you missed out on CDB Tours, they were busy with the the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps.

They do private tours and can help with accommodation

Australians and Juno Beach.... Is it because....

awm.gov.au/atwar/…index.asp

Or maybe that stretch of Normandy coast is reminiscent of New South Wales...??? lol

When you can%26#39;t get on a tour hiring a car is a good choice but you still need a guide or you%26#39;ll spend the day wondering what you are looking at and won%26#39;t appreciate the visit. A human guide is the best choice but that comes at 260€ and more. The next best choice is an audio guide at 25€.

www.normandywebguide.com charged our guests around 140 euros for 6 hours, not quite 260 euros!
