One day in Paris...Sat, Sun or Monday?

We will be taking the tunnel train over to Paris for a day trip as that%26#39;s all the time we have. We can either go on Sat, Sun or Mon (Aug 30, 31, Sept 1). We would like to spend a few hours in the Louvre and hit a few of the other typical %26quot;touristy%26quot; sites. I do not know when things are open or closed and would appreciate any guidance on which day we should do the day trip. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

On Mondays the Musee d%26#39;Orsay and Versailles are closed. So Monday is a very crowded day at the Louvre (was there then as well as a few other days of the week.) But then Sundays can be, too (first Sunday of the month free).

If you do not want to do any shopping, go on Sunday.

Some stores will be open at the small underground mall by Louvre as well as some souvenirs shops however.

Take a nice walk through the city or a river cruise to get an overview.

Hmmm looks like all the cheap early train fares are not available. Monday is the only day with early trains available at the cheapest price. Unless I want to see the two museums mentioned that are closed on Monday is there any other reason not to go on a Monday? I%26#39;m assuming the Louvre is open on Mondays. Thanks.

The Louvre is open on Monday. It is closed on Tuesday. What else do you want to see while you are in Paris?

The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumph and maybe do a little shopping. We have someone travelling with us who collects Christmas ornaments from all over the world so were hoping to find some of those also.

If you go up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe you can see the Eiffel Tower from there. The line is long at the Eiffel Tower and you will waste a lot of your day if you insist on going up. The Arc rarely has a line and the view is fabulous.

The department stores and many other stores will be open on Monday, but many of the smaller stores will be closed. You may want to check on the particular Christmas store so you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

I found this out the hard way last year when I waited to the last day of my trip, a Monday, to find the store that carried the hard to find, discontinued embroidered items that I wanted. I could see them through the window, but could not get in, and by the same time this year, they were all gone.

I would go on Saturday. Everything is open: restaurants, shops, bakeries, you name it. Sunday and Monday are typical closing days for many places (not just shops, a lot of restaurants too).

To complicate things a little--the Marais district has lots of Jewish shops and restaurants and Saturday is the Jewish sabbath (beginning Friday night at sundown) so you will find many places closed on Saturday in the Marais.
