Eurocamp at Ghisonaccia

Thankyou aadvark10 for your advice ,has anyone stayed at Eurocamp Ghisonaccia would they recommend it

Haven%26#39;t been there, but I understand that the site is very good with the proviso that a nearby disco goes on until the early hours. I believe the brochure warns about this. Note that the east coast has excellent beaches but scenically is not the best part of the island, although you only have to go inland a short way for some great scenery. It%26#39;s about 1 hour or so from Bastia airport along the best road on the island.

Hi, I know this site very well having worked around there for several years. Marina D%26#39;Erba Rossa the last time i was there needed some investment and was looking run down and quite shabby. The Eurocamp units are mostly together. If you do decide to go with this site opt for a mobile and be independant of the shower blocks/ toilets as these were never very clean.

The beach is beautiful with the mountains a dramaitic backdrop behind. The town of Ghisonaccia approx 4kms away has 2 supermarkets and other shops but isn%26#39;t the most attractive town. There are plenty of restaurants around and yes there is a disco nearby which was aproblem several years ago but they did soundproofing when i was last there which did help quite considerably.

Next door to D%26#39;Erba Rossa is another campsite with far superior standards.- Arinella Bianca. These owners are very proud of their site and continually invest in it. You can book directly with the site for their own accommodation. They speak excellent English. Try taking a look at their website. (i am nothing to do with them but i did deal with both sites over many years.

Corsica is a beautiful unspoilt island, not as cheap to shop as the mainland but a totally different experience.

You can also book your own ferries on lin using Corsica Ferries or SNCM ferries and do your own thing and probably much cheaper. If you have any more questions just ask.

Hi there I%26#39;m going to stay here soon and I%26#39;m wondering if anyone knows how to get from the ferry port in Bastia to the campsite at 22.30pm on a saturday night when they%26#39;re not hiring a car? Is it very expensive in a taxi and is it likely we could get a taxi? Haven%26#39;t been able to get much joy out of the campsite reception on this point so any advice appreciated!

A taxi would be prohibitively expensive. Far better to stay the night in Bastia and catch the bus the next day (for transport times see www.corsicabus.org).

Far better still is to hire a car. I would absolutely hate to be stuck on a campsite for the whole of my time on Corsica as you would miss so very very much of what the island has to offer.

Thanks for your advice aadvark however we can%26#39;t hire a car as we don%26#39;t have credit cards and we were hoping not to have to stay overnight in bastia as we have already paid for accomodation in the campsite. If we do go down that route do you know of any good and cheap hotels in the area please? (previous issues of transport remaining...I%26#39;m not sure how near the ferry port is to bus stops and hotels?) do you have any idea how much a taxi might cost please and if they are readily available please? we were thinking that a hotel overnight plus bus or whatever the next day may add up to about the same as getting a taxi and staying in our pre booked and already paid for camping accomodation (if that makes sense) and we%26#39;d rather get there that night if possible. I%26#39;ve heard the transport there can be a bit erratic, we%26#39;re brave travellers but unsure as we%26#39;ve never been before how far even the campsite is from the port (as I say I%26#39;ve not found the campsite very helpful in that regard!) many thanks for your help. also I don%26#39;t suppose you%26#39;re a lake garda expert too? we%26#39;re going there as part of the same tip (actually this is where we%26#39;ll be coming from on the ferry)

Thanks!

Sorry, can%26#39;t help you with taxi fares.

The port at Bastia is situated in the middle of the town and taxis should be available at or close to the port, but maybe not late at night. I%26#39;ve gone off the idea of the bus since the campsite is 4km outside the town.

I%26#39;m puzzled about what you say about Lake Garda. It is an inland landlocked lake. You would have to go to the coast to catch a ferry to Corsica.

Anything you want to know about Lake Garda in particular? It%26#39;s a great place for a holiday, in particular if you can get easy access to the boats why ply the lake, enabling visits to the many towns on the lakeside.
