Help with Normandy visit

Planning a family trip in France. Thinking about a few days in Bayeux to see the WW II sites. What are the best tours? I see a lot of posts about Battlebus, Overlord, etc. Think we want a comprehensive 1-day tour. Considering a day trip to Mont St. Michel. Is that worthwhile for kids (14 %26amp; 17). Also, appreciate good places to stay and eat with a family.

I%26#39;ve never taken a tour, so reading up on the posts or doing a search will get you some good info.

I always recommend the Ferme du Pressoir

Absoulutely great B%26amp;B, good rates, a nice and relaxing environment, and Odile, the owner, is a true gem! Located south of Bayeux near Villers-Bocage... great base for day trips. It is also a Rick Steves%26#39; recommendation in his %26quot;France 2008%26quot; book..... We drove to MSM and it was one of the better things we did! Our kids were 4 and 2 at the time... lol

What time of year are you going? We went in November and it wasn%26#39;t too crowded... I%26#39;ve seen video of MSM in summertime, and it looked like wall-to-wall masses of humanity...

Last summer we did the one day tour with Battlebus and it was excellent! Our group was myself, my mother, and my 16 yr old DD. There was another family in our group and they had 2 teenage boys. The tour was so good, and even all the teens were thoroughly engrossed in it.

We s tayed in Bayeux at the Churchill Hotel which was great for us. Rooms are not lavish, but not bare bones either. Well kept, fantastic location right in town, and the owners were wonderful.

We had one dinner at Le Petite Bistro which was very good, and another at La Fringale. We actually liked La Fringale better. Both were right in Bayeux, and La Fringale was basically right across from the hotel.

Be sure to go to the Peace Museum/Memorial in Caen. We have been twice, and it is a perfect stop before doing any tours.

I would second (or third) using Battlebus -- we also took the one-day American tour that was very meaningful. the guide%26#39;s expertise on the sites we were visiting was extremely helpful and truly made the tour. It is one thing walking around Ste. Mere Eglise, Utah or Omaha beaches; but it is another listening to a guide give information and back stories that add to the tour. Highly recommend. And, because they use minivans, the tour consists of 8 people and the driver/guide.

Also, if you decide to take a tour, don%26#39;t wait too long to reserve -- no deposit and fee is in Euros.

We stayed in Bayeux for several nights and also recommend going to see the Bayeux Tapestry -- the historic record of the Norman conquest of Britain in 1066 -- the tapestry was made in the late 11th Century and is nearly 1,000 years old.
