What is the best way to get to Nice from Cannes?

I will be taking a cruise on Sept 2 and will be in Cannes on Sept 3. I really want to go to Nice without having to go on a cruise excursion. May I please have some suggestions as to what is the best way to get there? Thanks in advance

As you only have part of the day while your ship is in port I suggest you take the train. Frequent fast services between the 2. You would see more from the bus but you don%26#39;t have the luxury of time. You would make maximum sightseeing use of your time if you took the ship%26#39;s excursion because they ferry you around when you are there. If you arrive in Nice at Nice Ville rail station what are you going to do? How do you get a fast handle on the local public transport?

It is quite a walk from the station to Promenade des Anglais which most first time visitors to Nice head for.I am not saying it is not possible for you to do your own thing but unless you just want to go to Nice to say that you%26#39;ve been there then I recommend the ship%26#39;s excursion.

We did the Cannes port stop (tender-more wasted time) and took the ship excursion to Nice 3 years ago on a P%26amp;O cruise and we thought the Nice excursion was good value for money. They even chartered their own road train for the city tour so we didn%26#39;t have to queue with the public. And we liked Nice so much we returned for a 5 day visit last year to see more of this tourist-friendly city by the sea.

Good luck.

I would agree with the previous poster about taking the train to Nice. The rail station in Cannes is very central. Once you get to Nice Ville rail station, the tram will take you to the old town or the Promenade des Anglais if you don%26#39;t want to walk.

The train is much faster and actually gives much better views than the bus on this stretch too :)

Rail schedules on the Nice Aiport site :

Allow yourselves plenty of slack in the schedules though as trains are frequently delayed. If you are unlucky and the trains are on strike, or you find yourselves very short of time because of reduced shore leave or whatever, a good plan B would be to use your time visting Antibes by bus and Cannes itself.

Provided you can walk the ship%26#39;s excursion is a fantastic waste of money. In my view Nice is by far the most interesting place on the Riviera. Train takes a little over 30 mins and Nice Ville station is about a 15 minute walk from the old town and the promenade or, as others have said, five minutes on the tram.

Make sure you have a note of the times of the trains back and allow at least an hour for delays and cancellations.

I am regularly amused by the chaos of the eight or so buses which can take 30 minutes to get out of Villefranche with their captives.

Thank you for all your suggestions, I am really into open air markets and from all my research Nice is the way to go. How do I go about finding out the cost of the train and do they take credit cards? 18 days to go and just trying to get as much information I can. Thanks!!!!

Hi there the 2nd class fare to Nice is 5.8 euros single/11.6 return on the local trains.Journey takes ~30-40 minutes.

You can use credit cards to pay. Be prepared for a queue at the kiosks.

Might be worth purchasing a Carte Isabelle which is only 12 euros and gives unlimited travel on local trains in 1st and 2nd class for the whole day.

If you like markets, the food market in Cannes- Forville (open until lunchtime only) is definitely worth visiting and Antibes has lovely street markets, less touristy than Nice IMO.
