Aug 15 public holiday in Nice? Everything closed?

We are staying in Nice all week and having a fabulous time. We think tomorrow (Aug 15) is a public holiday and are not sure what effect this will have on our options. IS there a local expert who could advise us? Just wondering how much will still be open, or if there is very little difference.

Many thanks,

Clare

Hi Clare, we%26#39;re here too. I think most of the Old Town will be open but it%26#39;s probably not the best day to try shopping in the modern city centre. Most supermarkets will be open at least in the morning, a few all day. Public Transport will be as for holidays and Sundays. It%26#39;s a good day to go to the beach or splurge on a private beach - might be an idea to reserve loungers or get there fairly early. I tried to book the tram tour for tomorrow night and it%26#39;s not running (the tour, not the tram!) I would try and stay in Nice and take it easy on the beach or go for a walk around the Cap of Nice and back for lunch in the Port maybe. Might be worth buying a copy of Nice Matin today to see what might be on. There will be some church services for the festival.

Thats a great help - thank you very much! Also tried to have a look on the internet and have come across the Fete de 15 Aout but not much information after that! Is there some sort of festival in the port? And fireworks, perhaps? Its tough to find out anything!

Thanks again,

Clare

There%26#39;s usually something going on at the Port in the evening, a traditional procession with a statue of Mary, all quite low key. I%26#39;ve seen no posters this year at all so not sure if it%26#39;s on, forgot to buy Nice Matin yesterday and I%26#39;ve woken up to rain and cloud anyway so it looks like it might not be a beach day after all.

Found a bit of general info here:

I could always crack on with the ironing instead today, hehe.

Thanks for all your help! I logged on to NICE -MATIN online after you suggested it - you can read the whole paper (albeit with limited french knowledge lol!). The most I could decipher though was the same as you had already told me - about what would be open and running - you were spot on! Also there seems to be some restricitons on the Prom. des Anglaises - parking and so on. And some free outdoor theatre stuff along the beach too.

Have a good day! Going home to Liverpool tomorrow where its been raining torrentially all week - so we%26#39;ll soak up whatever sun we can today!

Trying to decipher my Nice Matin, yes, the Port procession is on, from 17:45 hours finishing with an open air mass at 19:00 hours. Looks like there%26#39;s things going on on the Prom by the Centenaire beach in front of Albert 1er Gardens with a show later on and fireworks at 10pm. It%26#39;s so windy today I wonder if the fireworks will be cancelled. We stuck it out on the Blue Beach until the rain this afternoon then gave up. It looks like Galeries Lafayette is open all day and Cap 3000 too for those who need to shop. Bit late this info, never mind. Safe journey back tomorrow.

Not too late at all - thanks for that information! We can see the port from our balcony so fingers crossed for the fireworks later - then we%26#39;ll really have to start packing lol!

Thanks again,

Clare
