Honeymoon in Paris!!!

Ok - so its not my honeymoon - its my brothers (my hubby and i had AN AMAZING TIME last year on our own honeymoon traveling the Greek islands!)

As a present to my bro and sister-in-law to be we are giving them their honeymoon to Paris. I%26#39;m just really confused cause theres so many hotels in paris not sure where to put them up in! i%26#39;m looking for a decent priced 4 star - from experience from other travelers is it better to stay in the city centre district / near major attractions or a little bit further and be able to access them via metro? Considering its their honeymoon they%26#39;ll probably wanna relax a lot however since they are in Paris they%26#39;ll wanna go sightseeing a lot as well!

all the help will be greatly appreciated!

That%26#39;s a pretty impressive gift. My $AUD0.02: central is better and the Ile de la Cite or the Ile St Louis would be our pick.

Thanks for the quick response - i%26#39;ll check those out for sure. Anyone stayed at the Residhome Prestige Millenaire? It%26#39;s a four * and getting a great deal on it...just wanna make sure its not a junk hotel! its hard to find reviews on it as well....

I would say either pick a hotel located in the central part of Paris or pick a hotel where their room has a view of the Eiffel Tower. Normally I wouldn%26#39;t suggest the room with a view but for a honeymoon, that might be pretty special. Every place in Paris is accessible by Meto/bus.

My favorite place to stay is Ile St. Louis. I don%26#39;t know if their hotels are 4* or not. The island is pretty small so I just don%26#39;t know the choices for hotels. I stayed in an apartment when I stayed there.

How long will they be in Paris? You are a really nice sister! Will you be my sister?

It looks like the Residhome Prestige Millenaire is in a suburb of Paris. You might look at some 4 star hotels closer in so they won%26#39;t have to spend so much time on the Metro.

Do you have a budget in mind?

|||

You definitely wouldn%26#39;t want a hotel in a suburb which required taking the train into Paris. I have done that before and it is awful. You can%26#39;t have a night life in Paris because you need to be at the train station before the last train. Not good!

|||

Thanks guys - yes i%26#39;ll be your sister :) lol....

Ok - so suburbs would not be the best way to go - i guess for a honeymoon you%26#39;d wanna have it as special as possible. We%26#39;re looking at sending them for 7 days - i%26#39;ve seen apartment/studios and they acutally look pretty good!

You can get so much more for your money by renting an apartment rather than a hotel. The advantage of a hotel is that someone makes your bed for you each day and it might be easier to cancel your reservation. The advantages of an apartment are: more space, no one knocking on your door and bothering you, quieter, your own kitchen (not necessarily to cook but to eat a roast chicken and potatoes purchased on the street, or to eat other things purchased at an open market, for example, . . .

In Paris there are 20 neighborhoods. The numbers start with 1 in the very center of the city (Louvre) and wind around like a %26quot;snail%26quot; (escargot). Each neighborhood has a %26quot;zipcode%26quot; which begins with 750__ and ends in 2 numbers. Look for a zip code which ends with 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, or 06 and they will be located in a neighborhood near the main sites and in easy walking to a majority of the things they will want to see.

We found a gem through colleagues in Paris, and stayed at the Hotel Pont Royal in Saint-Germain de Pres, a couple of blocks from the Louvre/Tuileries, just across the Pont Royal. The location was fabulous, and because we told them at the time of booking that it was a special occasion they offered us the room on the top floor (top floor has only one room and one suite), which had it%26#39;s own small terrace and a sweeping view of the city from Mont Martre to the Eiffel Tower. The bathroom was a bit smaller than in other rooms, so they offered us a choice, but of course we snapped up the room with a view. We were treated like gold the entire time, and the Concierge took extra special care of us, finding out our dining preferences and always making perfect recommendations. It was truly an effortless vacation.

Oh my gosh--if you can afford to pay for your brother and new wife to stay at the Hotel Pont Royal (where Joel Robuchon%26#39;s restaurant is) I want to be your sister for sure! It looks beautiful--and amazingly expensive for what I can afford.

that one was about $1000 over budget but amazing hotel indeed! anyone been to the Holida Inn Paris Republique? Its a decent distant away from the rush, they have roomier rooms and adjacent to the metro...and so far getting a decent price on it too! expedia for 7 days in paris about $1800 each......(flight and hotel from Toronto).
