Paris side trips

My wife and I will be in Paris the second week in October for our first visit. We will be in Paris for 5 full days. We were thinking of taking a side trip, wanting to see some of the French country side. Does anyone have any ideas for a day trip, possibly to wine country via train. We are looking forward to exploring Paris, but would like to have a scenic day in the country side also. Any suggestions?

Try going to Reims and visiting the champagne houses. It%26#39;s only about an hour or so train ride and I had a pleasant experience there. I%26#39;m not sure how much %26quot;countryside%26quot; you will see, but it is a nice daytrip.

Most of the places Sarastro mentions, as well as several more, can be found in a delightful book by Annabel Simms called One Hour From Paris. All are easily reached by train from the center of the city. The book gives any historical significance as well as suggested walking routes and restaurants/cafés of the villages.

Though farther afield, you can also get to LYON via TGV from PARIS-Gare de Lyon in two(2) hours and see quite a bit of countryside as you go....OR...TOURS in 70 mins or so. You can hook up with a local tour operator for visits to Loire chateau.
