places to nosh!

Hey guys, can anyone recommend good places to eat/drink in St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat? I am there for my 30th birthday holiday this September so would love any suggestions for fab places to nosh! I%26#39;m staying at the Hotel Royal Riviera (fingers crossed it%26#39;s as fabulous as it looks!) for two days but don%26#39;t want to just eat there! Any local places anyone can recommend?

Hi Gollum

I%26#39;m just back from Cap Ferrat having spent awekk there with my wife. We are both 40 years of age and whilst this area is lovely it may be a little quiet for your 30th if you are looking for atmosphere. The Royal Riviera is closer to Bealieu than Cap Ferrat which is a 20 minute walk along the front. Both towns have marina%26#39;s with restaurants but to me, they are identical the world over, lifeless and soulless. Both towns are pretty sleepy with little going on, lots of expensive villas with high walls and no inhabitants. Next time we go we%26#39;ll definitely stay in Nice and take the odd trip elsewhere during the day. My advice would be to find a restaurant in Nice for your birthday if you%26#39;re looking for atmosphere.

I agree about Nice no suprises there - however if you are at St Jean anyway, you are bound to want to out out. Transport back to Cap Ferrat late evening is kind of limited.

The recommended place which though not cheap is not ruinously expensive like Beaulieu%26#39;s La Reserve is Le Sloop down at the port frontage at St Jean. Star reviewed and boasts Andrew Lloyd Webber as a regular.

A refuge of multi-millionaires does not really have the %26quot;footfall%26quot; to support much other than very limited and exclusive dining.

Have to agree with NiceLife there. We had dinner on our first night at Le Sloop and enjoyed it so much that we had lunch there on our last day as well. The food is on a different level to elsewhere locally and although quite pricey they have a very good set menu with choices that comes in around 28 Euros a head I think. A husband and wife own it, she is lovely and manages front of house and he is the chef, they have been there for 24 years. She even remembered my wife and I from when we went in Sept 06!

Definately agree with the recommendations for Le Sloop - it%26#39;s one of our favourites. Also, if expensive, and if open, as it was closed for refurbishment earlier this year, the hotel restaurant at the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, tho%26#39; you%26#39;d need to take a taxi there and back. As mentioned, the restaurant in La Reserve is also excellent. In the evenings, book a taxi, during the day, walk 5 mins up the road and you%26#39;re on the number 100 bus route between Menton and Nice.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for your replies! I will definitely check out Le Sloop and possibly La Reserve and the restaurant in the Hotel Grand as well.

From what you all say, sounds like there%26#39;s not much going on in the area so I%26#39;m glad I%26#39;m only there for 2 nights - might even head into Monaco for one night.

I%26#39;m actually going to Switzerland, Venice and Nice before Jean Cap Ferrat - this is the last stop on my itinerary so I thought it might be nice just to laze around on the beach/pool for the last 2 nights of the holiday.

Thank you so much for all your advice!

Hi,

We have a boat in st jean cap ferrat. A great place for your 30th birthday meal would be the African Queen on the port at Beaulieu. It is great food and a lively atmosphere. It is an easy walk to the African Queen from the Royal Riviera. I would suggest booking a table especially if you are there on a friday or a saturday evening. The Royal Riviera is as good as it looks. Some friends of ours stayed there last year. St Jean is relatively quiet but the Cadillac bar and the Cuivette are always very busy. The beef bar on the port at Fontvielle (Monaco) is also a great place to eat.St Jean is my favourite place on earth and I am sure you will have a lovely time.

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Riviera last year for 3 nights. It%26#39;s a beautiful hotel with fantastic views.

The walk into St Jean is very nice - all along the water. You can also walk around the entire peninsula of Cap Ferrat if you want some exercise. It takes about 2 hours and is incredibly scenic.

We enjoyed dining at African Queen as well.

There are also quite a few restaurants in Villefranche.

Two years ago we spent 3 nights in Monaco and stayed at the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel which is right in Monaco, within walking distance of the Casino, or you can take their free shuttle. It%26#39;s got its own beach and pool and a hip lounge right on the beach which is very popular at night. It%26#39;s one of the oldest hotels with lots of history but has been very well maintained. We loved this hotel. While in Monaco, we ate at Zebra Square one evening which is a hip restaurant with a great terrace so you can dine outside. It%26#39;s expensive but we really enjoyed the atmosphere. Just another suggestion.
