Romantic Weekend in Paris

My Patrner is 60 in October and I am planning a surprise trip to Paris. Will Arrive Thursday 9th October and leave Sunday 4.00 pm. We have never been to paris and would like to do the sights, but not sure what area to book hotel in. Are there bus tours aroudn the city that would show the most popular sights?? We need somewhere that does not involve too much walking as my partner has bad kness. I woould really appreciate any advice as I want this to be a special trip for us.

we need a budget.

Book a hotel near rue Auber/Opera Garnier. That%26#39;s where you catch the Open tour at its start. You can buy a 2 day pass and see all the sights.

There are many hotels on rue des Mathurins and rue de Castellane or rue de l%26#39;Arcade that would be convenient for catching that bus and having a good seat on it.

There is at the top end the Grand Intercontinental hotel. Cheap is Madeleine Opera. In between, hotel Queen Mary, Folkestone, George Sand etc.

HI Thanks for that. My Budget is approx £300 - £450 for the hotel. The bus tour sounds just what we are looking for. All the hotels i have looked at mention the quarter that they are situated in. Which quarter would be good. I would like a hotel within walking distance of good restaurants/cafe-bars. Cheers

The best place to stay where there is plenty to see and do, shopping, eating, pubs, what have you, is the Latin Quarter. Avoid staying in the Montmartre area, my husband and i stayed there, it is nothing but adult stores, strip clubs, and people trying to rip you off. The latin quarter includes the Notre dame, as well as the pantheon. Bus tours are pretty much available everywhere you go. Another great thing about Paris, is the metro system. You can buy 10 metro tickets for like 10 euro and it will get you around all of paris for about 4 days. ( 10 tickets per person) they sell the tickets in a pack of ten to make it convenient. Utilize the metro system! It is a God sent! Enjoy the Eiffle tower and its endless lawns for an evening, go to one of the local markets, get some goodies for a picknic, grab a blanket and lay on the lawn all after noon with a bottle of your favorite wine and some croissants from a local bakery! Tre Magnific! It makes for a lovely afternoon! ( VERY ROMANTIC ) might i add! Enjoy paris! It stays daylight for longer than most places, giving you ample time to enjoy the sites! Bonjour!

I%26#39;m sorry but it is important to read what the poster says before making suggestions. When a person has bad knees, I would say that the Metro would be a killer!!! Stairs after stairs after stairs after stairs after stairs. How can bad knees do that????

There are a few stations with elevators but they are few and far between and you have to know in advance which ones they are. Then some stations have escalators but you never know where they are and if they are working that day. I say stick to the buses.

By the way, if you go to the Arc de Triomphe (which you should because the view is fabulous) there is an elevator (run by an elevator man) which you can take to within 40 stairs from the top. Be sure to take it. There is rarely a wait to purchase tickets at the Arc. It is not to be missed.

Consider the Batobus. It%26#39;s a hop on hop off boat that stops at eight sightseeing stops along the Seine. You can stay on for as long as you desire. Review specifics on their web site.

hi

you and your partner are going to LOVE paris its the most amazing city,it has something for everyone

i would recommend staying in the latin quater/saint germain area as it has the most going on, as ur partner has bad knees, i think this area has the most walking distance areas for exapmle food and sights!

notre dame is in this area and the buses stop across from notre dame, a lot of people just hang about that area its lovely and so relaxing and chilled out.

i would highly recommend the hopon hopoff bus in my opinion its the only way you%26#39;ll fit it all the sights. not sure if they go to sacre le coeur but just get a taxi its beautiful up there

have a nice trip if theres anything else u want to know id be glad to help :)

Yes i agree Metro is not a place for someone with walking problems. Some stations like Chatlet have a lot of walking involved. I would also suggest Batobus for sites along the Seine River (Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame etc...you can check out their website for stops - i have never been on it but seems like a great idea). And the bus for areas that you would normally need to take the metro (Haussmann - shopping district - i think there are 9 stops total 20 euros for 2 day pass i believe). I had some extended family visiting this past July and they used it. They liked it and it helped them gain a feel for the city). And they liked seeing all of the crazy drivers ;-). You also have access to taxi%26#39;s if you get tired or sore.

As for romance you have to see the Eiffel Tower at night.

For hotel stay in Saint Germain since they will have everything you need bars, restos etc...

Many thanks to everyone that has responded to my enquiry. It all sounds amazing and will let you know how we get on. Excited already - cant wait.

Cheers.
