Please review 6 day Oct Honeymoon Itinerary

Hello everyone,

I%26#39;m back again in pursuit of sage itinerary and food suggestions and insight for our upcoming Oct 23-Oct 30 Parisian honeymoon (I received great information the last time I posted regarding our VIP apt. We%26#39;ve chosen http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_72.htm). As it has been recommended before, for the sake of time management, we%26#39;ll try to prevent backtracking as much as possible.

Most museums are noticeably absent, except for the biggies naturally, and Versailles. We really want to spend ample time in the Marais and Latin Quarter and simply eat and walk our way through the city.

Meal sugestions are greatly appreciated, especially if indicated by districts and euro amounts. We are looking for classic, hearty French bistro cuisine, no more than 50-75 euros per meal, as we will prepare breakfast at our apt, picnic for one meal, then dine out for the third. We%26#39;re not the Guy Savoy, $500pp types.

Ok, here%26#39;s our tentative itinerary. Again, thank you all for your knowledge and assistance in making our honeymoon a blast!

Sounds Lovely!

But with all those Picnics I%26#39;ll have fingers crossed for you that it doesnt rain much that week!

The only glaring problem is on Saturday. You have exploring the Marais, a r. Mouffetard picnic and Montmartre in one day. They are in three separate areas of the city. Exploring the back streets of Montmartre is a delightful way to spend a day. Even if you just go see Sacre Coeur and Place du Tertre, it will take you most of a morning. I might suggest you metro over to r. Mouffetard on Sunday morning. Purchase your picnic supplies. Make your way back through the Latin Qtr to Notre Dame. You could picnic at a little park behind Notre Dame or at the Memorial de la Déportation which is also behind ND. Then explore Notre Dame, St Chappelle and the islands making your way back over to the Marais as you go.

A very nice bistro in the Latin Quarter is Le Reminet on r. des Grandes Degrés. You should probably make reservations even if you stop in to make them on your way by. Their # is 01 44 07 04 24. I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon :)

This is quite a good itinerary. I see you did your research (on TA and/or elsewhere). Congratulations!

You are including my favorite building: Opera Garnier so I am glad to see that. You%26#39;ve also included L%26#39;As du Falafel (yummy!) and Angelina%26#39;s so I wish I were going with you.

For a restaurant in the Marais--you might enjoy Robert et Louise. It gets good reviews. It is only open for dinner. You need a reservation.

When you are on the left bank (Latin Quarter/Sainte-Germaine-des-Pres) do you want to visit the Rodin Museum? It contains the famous %26quot;The Thinker%26quot; and %26quot;The Kiss%26quot;--as famous as the Mona Lisa. There is also a lovely garden there where you could have lunch.

In the Marais area, be sure to walk past Hotel de Ville (Paris City Hall) and view the outside--just gorgeous building. Also walk past the Pompidou Museum in order to see the architecture of that building--totally unique and interesting. Next door to the Pompidou is the Stravinsky Fountains. Those fountains are whimsical, colorful, lots of moving parts and just delightful. When you walk down Rue des Rosiers in order to get falafel at L%26#39;As du Falafel check out the Jewish restaurants, deli%26#39;s, etc.--very different feel from the rest of Paris.

While on the Champs-Elysees, be sure to go into the car dealerships and get a snack at Laduree.

You might enjoy Bertillon ice cream on Ile St. Louis. I prefer Amorino gelato on the same street. And they scoop the gelato onto the cone so that each scoop forms a flower petal and when finished, your cone is shaped as a beautiful rose.

L%26#39;Orangerie is wonderful, especially if you like Monet. You will get to see the room specially designed to hold Monet%26#39;s water lilies.

Have a great trip. This itinerary is wonderful.

Oh, I am so giddy right now with the suggestions we%26#39;ve received thus far!

Missumurphy- We will create an alternate intinerary of bistros, just in case the Heavens decide to pour down on us!

Happygoin- I love your recommendations, and we%26#39;ve decided to have a picnic at Place du Tertre instead.

ILWP - I %26lt;heart%26gt; your suggestions and always take delight in reading your input. Truth be told, I was sooo hoping you would respond and provide your stamp of approval. I understand seeking a stranger%26#39;s approval of a travel itinerary may seem bizarre, but I find your information much more thorough and romantic than the Rick Steeves and ilk of the guide/tours circuit.

Another question, wise ones:

Which provides tastier steak -

Relais de l’Entrecote or Le P%26#39;tit Troquet

Thanks again everyone!

|||

Aw Shucks! I haven%26#39;t been to either of those steak restaurants so I can%26#39;t comment.

About a picnic at Place du Tertre--It isn%26#39;t a picnic area. It is a little square filled with artists doing portraits, cutting silhouettes, etc. with restaurants all around it. If you want to eat there, just pick a restaurant to have a meal, a drink, etc. Otherwise, you might want to choose another location for a picnic.

Hello Sanveanps,

Very coincidental, but I too will be in Paris for my honeymoon on those dates. Well, almost: October 22-27. We’re in France for 3 weeks and since I lived in Paris for two years decided to just spend 5 days there.

As a suggestion, I used to eat at the below restaurant regularly (usually once a week or so). It is small and unassuming, but the food and wine selection are quite nice. Prices are also very reasonable and depending on what time you dine, a reservation is probably a good idea.

As an interesting story, I got to know the staff quite well since I frequented the restaurant. Once, I came in for dinner with a small group. The host was very apologetic, but explained that he had to give our table to another party. I was a little perplexed until he pointed over and sitting at my table was Donald Sutherland with his wife (his wife is French). Ok, no worries…We went outside and walked about a half a block when he caught us and said that he had another table. Excellent! Shortly after sitting down Mr. Sutherland came over and introduced himself, thanked us for giving up our table and had two nice bottles of wine sent over.
