3-day itinerary review please

Hi,

My husband and I will be flying into CDG on 9/12 at 6:45a and staying until 9/14, leaving on the Artesia night train to Venice. We are staying at a hotel in the Left Bank area across the street from the Mouton Duvernet Metro stop. This will be our first trip to Paris so would like to see as many things as possible. We are very athletic and prefer walking over public transport, but realize that taking the metro will be necessary in order to see everything. I have done quite a bit of research on things we would like to see but would greatly appreciate feedback on whether or not is feasible. Here I go:

Friday:

Walk through the Latin Quarter

Tour the Catacombs

See Saint Chappelle

Notre Dame

Ile Sainte-Louis

Walk through Left Bank

Luxembourg Gardens

Eiffel Tower

Saturday:

Saint-Germain des Pres

Les Invalides

Champs Elysses

Opera Garnier

Place de la Madeline

Place de la Concorde

Louvre (evening ticket from 6:00p-9:45p)

Eiffel Tower (to see Twinkling lights again)

Sunday:

Paris Flea Market (for couple of hours in morning)

Montmarte

Sacre Coeur

Arc de Triomphe

Head to Artesia night train

I appreciate the experience and feedback of TA Paris travelers!

Hi. You have things grouped pretty well. I just don%26#39;t think you will get to everything. I think Sunday is fine (although I don%26#39;t know when your night train is actually leaving). I think you have too much on your schedule for both Friday and Saturday. I don%26#39;t think the Louvre is open Saturday night. I thought it was open Wednesday and Friday nights.

I am glad you have the Opera Garnier on your schedule. Definitely don%26#39;t skip that.

When you are at Place de la Concorde, atleast peak at the Tuilleries which begin there and run east to the Louvre. Perhaps your plan was to walk through the Tuilleries from the Place de la Concorde to the Louvre but do check out what days the Louvre is open at night.

The other thing which is sorely missing is the D%26#39;Orsay Museum. You really can%26#39;t do any more than you have scheduled--in fact you probably will do less than you have scheduled. However, if you like impressionist art, the top floor of the D%26#39;Orsay is simply amazing. The inside of the building is beautiful too (it is an old railway station). Perhaps a tad bit less neighborhood walking would allow time at the D%26#39;Orsay.

Anyway, figure out your priorities so that if you are running short on time during a particular day you know what your priorities are.

In Love with Paris,

Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, we had planned on walking through the Tulliere%26#39;s. On Sunday, our train leaves at 6:45p to Venice. I realize that we won%26#39;t be able to get see everything...just being there will be absolutely wonderful enough.

Thanks again :)

Hello Traveling

Have to agree with the other posters - I think you have too much scheduled for each day. The Catacombs I think you could skip - they are interesting but after about the first 200 yards of bones there really wasn%26#39;t anything else to see - your time might be better spent at the D%26#39;Orsay.

As for the Champs Elysses I%26#39;d skip that as well - it is no longer the %26quot;designer street%26quot; it once was - most of the high end designers have moved on and frankly I didn%26#39;t really see anything special about it. If you are interested in the high end designers, you can find many of them on Rue St. Honore - right around Place de la Madeline.

Given the possible crowds at some of the sights (although you are going after school has started so the crowds may be significantly smaller) I%26#39;d start Friday at Notre Dame and then go to Saint Chappelle. Plan to pick up sandwiches by Notre Dame and you could munch on them in the garden behind Notre Dame. Then head over the bridge to the Ille St. Louis for some tasty Bertillion ice cream and enjoy it as you meander around the island. I%26#39;d then cross back over the bridge and explore the Latin Quarter and possibly pop into the Cluny to see the Lady and the Unicorn and then stroll through the Luxembourg Gardens. You could stop around there for a quick dinner at a cafe and then hop the metro to the Louvre which is open until 10pm.

On Saturday, I%26#39;d start at Invalides and then explore St. Germain and then head to Opera Garnier and (if interested) Rue St. Honore for %26quot;designer row%26quot;. From there you could do the walk through the Tuleries and up the Champs Elysees to the Arc (I%26#39;d skip it and take the Metro!) to the Arc de Triumphe. Depending upon how quick you are this could take most of the day - if not you could add the Orangerie to see Monet%26#39;s water lilies since it is at one end of the Tuleries.

If the weather is cooperating pick up some wine and either dessert or cheese and fruit and have a little picnic in the Champs de Mars and see the Eiffel Tower light up - after two hard days of touring this would make a nice relaxing break.

This leaves Sunday to spend at the Flea Market and the area around Sacre Coeur plus anything else you missed or want to add.

Good luck and let us know how it works out!!!

Hi Kinkora:

Thank you so very much for your thoughtful review. We will most definitely incorporate the suggestions you described. It is so overwhelming trying to figure out where to go, what to see, etc. Your feedback is making it a lot easier! Less than four weeks and counting :) After Paris, we are really looking forward to seeing Venice, Florence, and Rome too!

Hi Traveling!!

You are very welcome - I too had a hard time figuring out how to budget our time - we did manage to see everything we wanted to see without feeling rushed. Make sure that your shoes (and feet!) are up to the challenge - you will walk more than you think!!!

Have a fabulous trip!!!!
