Gare du Nord: Metro Tickets

When I get off of the Thalys train from Amsterdam, at Gare du Nord, where do I need to go (route) to purchase a %26quot;carnet%26quot; of Metro tickets before boarding the #42 bus? Thanks, Lori

Metro Lines 4 %26amp; 5 run thru Gare du Nord. There will be signs all over and just follow them to the entrance and there will be a ticket office. If for some reason it%26#39;s not staffed, which would be highly unlikely, there are automated machines and the one on the right will take bills (Euros). Put in $15 and move the big roller up and down over your choice and then press on it to enter and after you%26#39;ve selected a Carnet it will ask %26quot;Acceptez%26quot; and you press it again and voila, tickets and change.

When you get off the Thalys, you walk toward the head of the train, then into the main part of the terminal, sort of veering to the left. I believe you go past the escalator, and look for the %26quot;Billets%26quot; sign for tickets. The metro entrances will be just beyond this area. I think the signage is pretty good.

p.s. you might try the bar car on the Thalys and ask if they have any metro tickets to get you to your hotel, then you can go get a carnet (this will help you clear Gare du Nord without having to stop for tickets)

p.p.s. do NOT let any stranger offer to %26quot;help%26quot; you with your ticket buying at a machine

I read some other notes, so now I%26#39;m not sure if you go %26gt;past the escalator, or %26gt;%26gt;down the escalator to reach the Billets windows.

Thank you both for your reply. I know it is a minor, if not silly, question, but my interest is know if I will have to go down to a lower level, or 2, and then walk some distance to get to the Metro station and then return to the main terminal and find my way to the bus stop - shades of Roma Termini. Doesn%26#39;t sound like it though, from your description.

Thanks. Lori
