Has anyone ever rented an apartment near this area? I found this website
www.rentalapartmentparis.com
and the apartment looks beautiful and very reasonably priced. We are probably going back to Paris for a week next spring (with a week in Amsterdam) and were wondering if we should venture out of the typical tourist arrondissements like the 4th, which we%26#39;ve stayed in our first 2 visits.
The neighbourhood looks very nice, but is it too out of the way to everything else? We loved walking everywhere from the Marais and Ile St Louis our first 2 visits; would having to take the metro to the more central parts of Paris take away the feeling of wonderment? Or would living in a more Parisian neighbourhood enhance our love of Paris and give us a better appreciation of the city and those who live here?
I realize these are very subjective questions, but there%26#39;s a lot of experience on this board and I love taking advantage of it!
Thanks

It%26#39;s definitely not %26quot;walking distance%26quot; to most things, but it is also definitely %26quot;real paris%26quot;...as in a residential area that would make you see what it would be like to live there.
That%26#39;s Truffaut%26#39;s place, he used to be a great contributor to the board here, he is a great guy and 100% trustworthy. People who have used his place really love it.

We have a friend living in Batignolles, it is quite charming part of Paris and there are numerous restaurants and interesting shops all around it. Definitely an authentic parisian experience I would not hesitate to rent there.

Wow, 2 great endorsements! I really like this apartment, I just have to convince hubby about not being so central.
Thanks to you both,

I%26#39;d snap it up - it looks terrific. I%26#39;m doing the search for an apartment at the moment and, having trawled through thousands of listings (literally!), this one stands out. It%26#39;s a stylish apartment and I think you%26#39;d enjoy the area - and it%26#39;s nice to explore different parts of the city on different trips! And Truffaut%26#39;s reputation is a bonus.

(Personally, I quite like staying a little further out from time to time and getting buses all over the place - you get to see a lot of Paris!)

As I posted in another thread:
The Batignolles area has a great park and a real village feel to it. There is good shopping in the rue des Batignolles and a market street with a supermarket and a covered market on rue des Moines.
The nearby Place de Clichy can seem a little rough around the edges, but it is pretty safe.
Your transportation options from Batignolles are actually pretty good. The 66 bus goes down to St. Lazare, the 74 goes to Hôtel de Ville and the 54 goes past the Gare du Nord. The 30 goes to Etoile, the 95 goes to Palais Royal, St. Germain and Montparnasse.
There are two metro lines from the Place de Clichy, the 2 and the 13. At St. Lazare you can change to the 14, and the trip from Place de Clichy to Chatelet only takes about 20 minutes. Taking the 13 to Duroc and changing to the 10 will get you to the Latin Quarter in about 30 minutes. You can pretty much get to all the central areas in 30 min. or less.

I, too, trawled through hundreds (maybe not thousands) of apartments before coming across the Truffaut property. It ticked all the boxes we were looking for, so we have booked it for 8 days next May. They have been very good to deal with so far.
We like staying a little off the beaten track and getting a taste of living like a Parisian for a short time.
Good luck with your search.

Paris 2004,
What dates do you have booked for May 2009? We are looking for May 16-24, so if you have already booked those dates, we may be out of luck!
Gotta move fast on the better apartments!

Gayle Boisclair has a few apartments near Parc Morceau, one on Rue De Levis in the 17th. Most of the apartments are located in the non commercial area of Montmarte (northside), but they are expanding to the 8th and 17th. If your apartment in the Batignolle doesn%26#39;t work out see, if they have something similar. They are nice folks to work with.

I couldn%26#39;t find the price for that apartment. I%26#39;m sure it is there somewhere--I just didn%26#39;t see it.
I have found an apartment already for my trip Sept-Oct %26#39;09 and I will be staying in the 17th on passage Doisy, off Avenue des Ternes. I have been told it is a lovely neighborhood. If anyone here knows anything different from that, I would love to know it.
Anyway, I am wanting to experience living in an area of Paris totally unfamiliar to me so I selected this area. I will be there for 30 days so I don%26#39;t mind having to travel to get to various Paris locations. I see it as an adventure.

Hi InLovewithParis,
The apartment in Batignolle rents for $1190 + $50 cleaning fee for 1-2 people/week or $1470 + $60 cleaning fee for 3-4 people/week. Looks like a very reasonable price for the size and quality of the place.
A whole month in Paris!!! I am so jealous.....maybe one day.
