Louvre questions

I know I can use the search function to find alot of info on this, but some of the threads are from 2005, so I just want to get some updated info.

We will be in Paris next month (mid September) is there a recommended day of the week to visit the Louvre when its not so busy?

I heard some of the wings close in the evenings, is this every night?

Is it best to purchase our Louvre tickets online before we get to Paris?

What is the best entrance to enter the Louvre, or does it matter?

Thanks in advance!

To enter the Louvre, there are lots of choices...

We used the Pyramid entrance in November... no lines. I had purchased tickets online prior to my trip, but they did not arrive in time. There was no waiting at the ticket machine, and I bought my tickets in English with no problem.

It%26#39;s closed on Tuesday... that would be the worst day to go. Click the link above to get other info.

Have fun!

wings do close in the evening -- the museum is not open every evening -- but wings close when it is

no need to get tickets in advance -- we have only once in 12 visits had a significant ticket line and that was a holiday and rainy

enter through the carousel entrance from the underground shopping area (entrance at the foot of the Tuilleries) -- there is rarely a security line and you can get your tickets from machines or booths once inside (the machines do not take US credit cards but the booth%26#39;s do -- there are also machines that take Euros) while the pyramid entrance security line is often long -- we have never had that happen in the carousel entrance

Hi, from Victoria also,,

There is no need to buy tickets online ahead of time( like you need more paper to keep track of,, LOL ) .

Just enter the Lourve from the Carosuel Mall entrance ( under awning) on Rue Du Rivoli,, I have done this for many visits ( at least 7 ) and it works great.. I always go in summer , so lines often are an issue . Buy ticket from machine.

I would not worry about lines too much if you choose to go later in day, I haven%26#39;t really seen any later in afternoon. There is always a few minutes of going through the security, but thats not a big deal.

Have fun.

PS Do check out recent posts on entrances or lines etc on Lourve,, I think one of our regular posters %26quot;In Love With Paris%26quot; has posted an excellant description on entrance I describe( I tend to suck at details).

A nice time to go is Wednesday or Fridays in the afternoon; both days the museum closes at 9:00 p.m. There isn%26#39;t much of a line at any entrance in mid-afternoon, even Pyramid. More importantly, the museum itself is much less crowded, and you can grab a bite at the restaurant there or there%26#39;s even a food court. We enjoyed our evening visits more than the Monday afternoon we also went, yikes. Did see Napoleon%26#39;s apartments that day as the galleries (esp. Italian paintings) were masses of people.

Hi --

Every question you%26#39;ve asked has been addressed by a recent thread, it%26#39;s not necessary to go back to 2005, although some of the information hasn%26#39;t changed a bit over the years.

I%26#39;ve been to Paris many times and each time I make several visits to the Louvre. The museum pass is a big help, here, but I%26#39;ve had trips where I%26#39;ve invested in several admissions and still been a happy camper.

I visit only one area at a time. You can get so %26quot;museumed out%26quot; with the Louvre, you won%26#39;t believe it. I drop back to the building every afternoon and see one more area, or return to an area that I have particularly enjoyed. I seldom spend more than an hour in the building, and I enjoy every minute.

I totally agree with Wednesday afternoons. We went just after lunch on our very first trip, breezed on in, and it wasn%26#39;t mobbed at all. So, we%26#39;ve visited on Wednesday afternoons ever since.

Maybe those who arrived %26quot;just before opening time%26quot; are gone by the time we get there and those planning to take advantage of the late hours haven%26#39;t arrived yet.

But, Wednesday afternoons have always been wonderful for us.

Weekdays are less crowded than weekends. The Louvre is closed Tuesdays. Open Weds and Fri evenings.

No need to purchase your Louvre tickets online.

To avoid lines, enter the Louvre on Rue de Rivoli under the red and white %26quot;Carousel%26quot; vertical banner, take the escalator downstairs, walk past the shops on your left and your right and you%26#39;ll end up in a large open-air, high ceiling%26#39;d room which has ticket machines you can use to purchase your entrance ticket for the Louvre. Then decide which wing you want to enter, stand in that short security line and %26quot;in you go.%26quot;
