There is no direct train route from Lourdes to Madrid.

You can use the timetable database of the German Railways (available in several languages) at

http://www.reiseauskunft.bahn.de/

to research the possible journeys, which will involve taking different trains in both France and Spain and the journey will take about 14 - 18 hours. Use the route %26#39;via Hendaye%26#39; for the faster journey.

or you can possibly travel by bus in about 12 - 14 hours journey, but I believe that there are no direct buses except from the city of Toulouse, which is about a 2 hour train journey from Lourdes. www.eurolines.com or www.alsa.es

Trains in this region are generally safe, with one warning to keep a close watch on any baggage as thieves sometimes board trains at station stops.

Tickets must be reserved for all journeys.

I hope that helps.
