Oil paint supplies

In Paris I will need to pick up a few oil painting supplies because I will be going to a workshop in another part of France after my stay. Does anyone know where I can find a good art supply store?

I will be staying in the 6th. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Two good ones are Sennelier at 3 Quai Voltaire and another one on rue Soufflot between the Bd. St. Michel and the Pantheon.

There is one is passage Choiseul in rue des Petits Champs. And one as you cross bridge to go to Musee d%26#39;Orsay, it is right on your left after bridge (cannot remember name but it is like Senequier).

And then you have Rouger et Plie (sp) between Bastille and Republique. I am mostly familiar with first one as I often walk by it.

Hi

BHV- Bazaar Hotel de Ville, a large department store right across from Hotel de Ville on the rue de Rivoli, 2nd floor has a very large art supplies department...

As you might imagine, you%26#39;ll find artist materials %26amp; supplies shops scattered all over Paris. The %26#39;..mecca..%26#39; for art supplies will certainly be--

SENNELIER--3 quai Voltaire (nr: Pont du Carousel) 75007 (main shop) and 4 bis rue de la Grande Chaumière, 75006 and 6 rue Hallé 75014

(This is where Picasso and Matisse shopped from time to time...Check for the 15% Student discount until Oct.25)

The BEAUX ARTS department, down in the basement of the LE BON MARCHE %26#39;grand magazin%26#39; also offers an excellent selection of artists materials and supplies--

Le BON MARCHÉ--24 rue de Sèvres, 75007, Metro: Sèvres-Babylone--

There%26#39;s also a chain of GRAPHIGRO-CRÉA (Rougier %26amp; Plé) shops throughout Paris that offer excellent selections of fine and graphic arts equipment, materials and supplies--

ROUGIER %26amp; PLÉ--13-15 Blvd. des Filles du Calvaire, 75003, Metro: Filles du Calvaire--

Also check out--(if you%26#39;re in the neighborhoods)--

for a %26#39;mixed-bag%26#39; of materials %26amp; supplies.

(there%26#39;s a SENNELIER shop just down the block from GATTEGNO as well)

There%26#39;s one not-so-minor-detail that you may want to consider: Art supplies and materials are NOT cheap...not any less expensive in Paris than they are in the US. Most of the same French manufactured materials and supplies that are available in Paris are also in the US (check out the Dick Blick web site), just as easily as in Paris. So bear this in mind when you pack your equipment. You may well want to purchase some item or items when in Paris--just to %26#39;..remember Paris..%26#39; (my wife has a couple of sets set of fine brushes, palette knives and a %26#39;artsy%26#39; linen painting smock that she%26#39;s accummulated from visits) but otherwise it may well be easier on your %26#39;plastic%26#39; if you just bring your own supplies with you.

If you get to the Musée Rodin...be sure to look for the large bronze of JULES BASTIEN-LEPAGE (the %26#39;plein-aire%26#39; painter..and perhaps also the inventor of glue)out in the gardens.

Wow. Thank you for all of the help. I realize this may seem like a stupid question but I%26#39;m just wondering if anyone knows if it%26#39;s OK (from a security standpoint) to bring large tubes of oil paint on the airlines assuming they are in a checked bag?

YUP...it%26#39;s okay to carry them in checked luggage...but just make certain that the paints are packed in Zip-Lock bags (freezer bags work well)...or everything in your luggage could wind up looking like your old painting smock. Your travel wardrobe may wind up a bit more %26#39;..stylish..%26#39; than intended.

If you%26#39;re staying in the 6eme-Saint Germain des Prés and you wanted to make an art supplies %26#39;..sweep..%26#39;--you could begin with the SENNELIER (mecca) up on quai Voltaire, then meander/work your way south through the 6eme to ESQUISSE on rue des Beaux Arts...MAISON GATTENGO and the other Sennelier shop on rue de la Grande Chaumière,...ending at the Le BON MARCHÉ %26#39;grand magazin%26#39; at Sèvres-Babylone.

This whole general area of Saint Germain, from the Seine south to Le Bon Marché is packed with interesting and unusual little shops (of all sorts) and places along the way...and worth meandering about within.
