Wine tour - bike

We would like to do a day trip to experience Champagne in late Sept/Oct from Paris. Without a car, is it possible to take the train from Paris to Epernay and rent bikes and go to one or two vineyards? It looks like many of the houses have tasting rooms in the city, but we would also like to make reservations and bike to the winery. Is this possible?

Thanks!

I%26#39;ve never tried it, but there is an English language website about cycling in the Champagne region www.pays-champagne-velo.fr/ang/louer.html

It looks like the leisure centre in Epernay does bike hire until the end of October, so you could try there http://www.ccepc.fr/ccepc.asp?IdPage=8257 - details are under %26#39;location de velos%26#39;.

You could cycle south out of Epernay into the Côte des Blancs regions through some very pretty villages where smaller Champagne growers will allow you to taste for a small fee - always best to make an appointment.

The big Houses buy in a lot of grapes, which is why their wineries are in the cities.

Thanks for the input. That was very helpful! I%26#39;ll report back on how it goes.
