Southern France question

We are trying to decide where to stay that would be central for our 1 week stay...or should we stay at a couple different locations? We are looking at staying in Antibes, Isle-sur-la Sorgue and Cavalaillon...what do you think? Suggestions? Tips?

I%26#39;d pick either Nice or Antibes. Both have good train connections. Nice is a good little city, with a bit of everything, but pebbly beach, it%26#39;s safe in all the areas that tourists are likely to visit. Antibes is more like typical French town, with sandy beaches. Personally I%26#39;d stay in Nice for the whole week - from here Monte Carlo, Italy (Ventimiglia) to the east are less than 1 hour away, with Cap Ferrat close by where the mega-rich live, but ordinary people can visit. To the west of Nice, Antibes, Juan Les Pins, Cannes and St.Raphael are within the hour.

You can also get trains into the mountains, including the Train Aux Pignes (Entrevaux is worth a visit).

Last time we visited, we split time between Nice and Antibes which worked well for us.

I think it depends on the kind of trip you want. If you can%26#39;t bear the thought of being near Avignon, Pont du Gare, the Luberon, as well as Nice and Monte Carlo without seeing them, then you%26#39;re going to need at least two locations. If you can happily explore one area and leave the rest of Provence or the Riviera for another trip, then take your pick and go with it.

I had the same question last year and ended up staying in Nice and Avignon in early April. It is really easy to take day trips on the train or bus from Nice, and Nice is a great city to explore. We went ot Monte Carlo one day, Menton one day, and walked around Nice for a couple days. The train and bus from Nice to Menton was spectacular in terms of scenery. We also stayed 2 days in Ville Neuve Les Avignon in a terrific hotel with courtyard. It was easy to explore Ville Neuve as well as take a bus to Avignon for a day. If we had more time there were several other places near Nice that I would have liked to go, so I hope to go again soon.
