Hire car from Paris to London via the fastferry !

We are a family of 5 from Australia who would like to drive(will be sick of planes by then)from Paris to London via Boulogne on the speed ferry but I am not having any luck with hire car companies as they want us to return the car to Paris. We leave for Hong Kong on the 10th Sept and will be in Paris on the 15th for 2 days then London for 3 before Disneyworld in Orlando, does any one know if there is any company who would allow us to do this or is the long bus trip the way to go-Eurostar is the last choice !! Thanks Theresa

I think the only company that does this is Hertz. I did a trial booking and they didnt balk at pick up in Paris, drop off in London. (That surprises me, because I have tried this before in the past with no luck). Your main problem may be the hire length - the shorter the hire, the less interested they are in international drop off. One thing though - are you really ready to drive a left hooker on the left? I do it all the time, but it does take a lot of getting used to - especially in heavy traffic.

I use Speedferries quite often - It%26#39;s a good trip as long as the channel is calm - but once the water gets wobbly it%26#39;s not much fun.

An alternative would be to explore the possibility of leaving the left hand drive off in Boulogne, then hiring a RHD in Dover.

IMHO the Eurostar would be best.

Knowing English roads, I%26#39;d avoid driving on the M25 and M23 if at all possible. The M25 is %26#39;affectionately%26#39; known as a car park.

Eurostar is the most efficient, stress free way of making the journey, especially as you will most likely be tired from jet lag and travel.

Of course, you may be a masochist who relishes the idea of several hours in a car, arguing with other motorists, none of whom seem to have had any driver training, whilst trying to read bad signage and negotiating stationary traffic, worrying whether you%26#39;re going to make the ferry or not, or even if the ferry is going to be running because it often gets cancelled due to bad weather . . . .

A car in Central Paris is a pain. A car in Central London is a pain.

A LHD car is not good when driving on the left side of the road.

Take the smart option, Eurostar train direct from the Centre of Paris to the Centre of London, and cut out all the faffing around, parking problems, parking fees, London Congestion charges and other pointless inconvenience that a car will create for you in these two exceptionally traffic-filled Cities!

OH yes, and not to mention that on another thread the other day (in the London forum, I think) someone was quoted a fee of £400.00 (yes, four hundred GBPounds, yes, really!!!!!) on top of the car rental rates to rent a car in London and drop off in Paris!!!! - Dread to think how much it would cost you, travelling in the opposite direction!

Thanks everyone, I have contacted Hertz and for 900 euros which is about $1500 Australian money we could hire a car but for 24 hours it is just not worth it, I will look at Eurostar again which was my 1st choice originally but Tony thought it would be a good idea to go on the ferry and hire a car, not now......Thanks again.Theresa
