We will be going from Lyon down South to a small town near Avignon. Because my father went to the University of Grenoble (in 1937 no less!), I thought it might be worth a side trip east to see it. Is the drive there from Lyon scenic/interesting? What about the road from Grenoble over to Valence (then south). Thanks for the information.

The drive to Grenoble is quite nice and you will
start to see the mountains approaching Grenoble.
Pay attention to the traffic jam in the morning
You may think staying one Day/night in Grenble
