Family Trip to Nice - Help!

My wife and I are going to Nice with my in-laws and our two young daughters, ages 3 and 1, between August 23-September 6.

I am looking for any and all advice on how we should spend the time. I%26#39;m trying to figure out what will be the best day trips out of Nice (i.e. Eze, Villefranche, Ventimiglia) via train and/or bus that will provide minimal hassle and maximum enjoyment for everyone.

Also, any specific insights on good beaches or activities within Nice would be greatly appreciated. The pebbles obviously creates some issues for the small kids but we want to make the best of it on a few days while including activities we will all enjoy. The Blue Beach and Forum Beach are private beaches we are considering b/c of the pools but I%26#39;m open to both public and private beaches that would be suitable.

I%26#39;ve seen some restaurant recommendation...but wondering if there are any in particular for a group our size of 4 adults and 2 children.

Finally, has anyone attended a soccer game at Stade du Ray? How easy is it to get to from the Promenade de Anglais and how easy is it to get tickets? There is a match during our vacation and I%26#39;d love to try to get a match while I am in town but wondering how to get tickets and transportation to the stadium.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Bill

I%26#39;m afraid I can%26#39;t help much with the children, except to say that children are welcome in most restaurants over here, and are generally treated like adults, sitting at the same table and taking part in the conversations etc (not running around). I%26#39;m sure that lots of people will reply with messages for child specific activities.

For the football, I believe the new tram runs by the Stade du Ray, so you should have no problems getting there. I also think you can buy tickets at FNAC, tho%26#39; I%26#39;m not positive. Alternatively, you could go see a game in Monaco at the Stade Louis II. There are 2 matches while you%26#39;re here - on 23rd and 30th August. You can also take a guided tour round the stadium, details on the website:

And combine it with a day in Monaco, where the fair will still be on in the port.

Go to my post of a month or two ago %26quot;the riviera with children%26quot;.....I tell about all the great things in Antibes for kids...also a day trip to Antibes on it%26#39;s own is very worthwile. As for restaurants with your type of party I would go to Safari in the Old Town, La Voglia for lunch, Granny%26#39;s, Au view four for great pizza and there are a number of good seafood places listed in the restaurant link or you could go to allaboutnice.com and nicepebbles.com.

WE%26#39;ve spent every summer holidays in the Nice area for the last seven years- the first one was when our two boys were 4 and 7.

Beach: I would recommend that you take the bus to Cap 3000 (St Laurent du var) and spend a day with the children at Cocody Beach. Admission is quite expensive, but it has three safe pools, and one that is ideal for toddlers. It will be a good day out on a sandy beach (imported sand) with sunloungers and parasols.

Also consider getting the train to Biot and attending Marineland. Again, admission is expensive, but its a great day out: water park, dolphin and whale show, farm park, etc.

One of our boys%26#39; favourite beaches is at Villefranche sur mer (a few miles east of Nice). It is also a lovely town to stroll with some good restaurants.

The port area in Monaco has a high-class funfair (what else did you expect)that your eldest child might enjoy.

I would also recommend a day in Menton (on the border with Italy).
