Jardin des Plantes or Jardin du Luxenbourg?

If you could go to one the above gardens which one would it be? We are both gardeners so enjoy seeing some different flora.

As you are hoping to see many different species of flora then definitely the Jardin des Plantes which is more of a botanical garden.

The Jardin du Luxembourg is more of a stylish city park and therefore better for a relaxing stroll or a spot of people watching.

Why not both if you have the time? There is no admission fee to either (at least not to the outside garden of the Jardin des Plantes which we visited in May). Both are nice, but different experiences.

For gardeners, le Jardin des Plantes is definitely where you want to go. Make sure you see the alpine garden which can easily be missed.

As n additional choice, I recommend the gardens of Albert Kahn:

www.gardenvisit.com/garden/jardin_albert_kahn

pagesperso-orange.fr/ecolesaintjoseph/albert…

Entrance - 1.50 euros

Closed on Mondays

This is one of the only places in perhaps all of France with a sizable collection of Japanese azaleas (Kurume hybrids and best viewed in spring). This is a rather large collection of different gardens that no gardener should miss.

The Museum Gardens of Albert Kahn can easily reach from the Jardin des Plantes on Metro Line 10:

Depart - Gare Austerlitz

Exit - Boulogne Pont de Saint Cloud

If you are keen botanists and gardeners then the Jardin des Plantes as one of, if not, the main botanical garden in France. It is free apart from a very small charge for the Alpine Garden on weekends (1 euro or so).

Obviously the Jardin du Luxenbourg will make for a lovely walk when you%26#39;re in that area.

Hi,

I totally agree with the recommendation to try to have them both (as I did during my last vacation in Paris).

Although the most beautiful photos that I have from Paris are the ones which were taken in Jardin du Luxenbourg, it%26#39;s not about the flora in this garden: it%26#39;s the atmosphere, the calmness and the style that make this garden %26quot;a must%26quot;.

Jardin des Plantes is more %26quot;structured%26quot; – it consists of Jardin écologique, Jardin de roches et de Pivoines, Roseraie, Jardin d’iris et de plantes vivaces etc. There is plenty of information about the flora at http://www.mnhn.fr
