Les Issambres for a week

Hi, my two friends and I will be spending about a week staying in a private house in Les Issambres. Can anyone suggest some suitable day trips from this area and whether local public transport (boats, trains (Frejus), buses) is the best way to get around or is car preferable? One of my friends has never been to France before, so she is keen to see as much as possible including the usual spots (Cannes, Monaco, etc). We will be collecting a car in Nice and plan to do an overnight stop-over in Grasse or St Paul de Vence on our way to Les Issambres. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks, PruefromOz

Hello and welcome. The area that you are going to is very busy in Summer so if you could tell us your dates we can better advice you.

Les Issambres is not really a place, more an area. It is some years since we stayed there but I doubt if there is much in the way of public transport. When we were there in August about ten years ago, we did not find the traffic to be an enormous problem, provided we stayed well away from St Tropez. If you want to drive there in summer, set off about 6.00AM and you will have no problems. Again, if you intend to travel east along the coast an early start is a good idea. Even by mid morning there may be nowhere to park along the very beautiful Cote Esterel between St Raphael and Cannes. There are lovely coves which are good places for an early morning swim.

If you want to travel between Cannes and the Italian border in summer my advice would be to park and get the train. If you head inland from Les Issambres you will hardly see a car, even in August.

For most of the year none of the above problems exist with the exception of Nice, where you can run into heavy traffic at almost any time.

Actually Les Issambres has grown up quite a bit since LondonBob was there and is now quite a thriving resort from what I can see as I drive through, at least once each year. The traffic there is a problem now hence my first question. His advice for everything from the East of Les Issambres is spot on. I know that is much more your area LB but if you want to go west you do not have to leave at 6am. There are ways around the traffic. Please get back to us.

Thanks for your initial response. My friends and I will be arriving in Les Issambres on 29 June 2007. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

As you are arriving on the 29th June which is before the main holiday period and will have a car anyway I would suggest that you keep the car. Public transport is not very good to Les Issambres.
