Regional sweets or pastries?

Hello all. We%26#39;ll be in Normandy in late November, and want to know if there are any special regional desserts, pastries, or sweets we should try while in the region. Please advise. Merci!

Personally I think it%26#39;s disgusting but teurgeule is a traditional Norman dessert. It%26#39;s rice pudding made with full fat milk, flavoured with cinnamon and baked in a low oven for hours until it has a thick skin on it. Yuk!! But my husband absolutely loves it.

And of course there is the obligatory apple tart.

If you%26#39;re having a large meal in Normandy you may also be offered a %26quot;trou Normand%26quot; literally a Normandy hole. It will be served between the fish and meat courses and was originally just a small glass of calvados to aid digestion and make a %26quot;hole%26quot; in your stomach for the next course. In most restaurants now it is an apple sorbet, served with or without the calvados poured over it.

Hi Thiaumerie~ If you have a recipe for %26quot; Teurgeule%26quot;or know of a good website I may find it, I would be greatful. I%26#39;ve been making my own version of what you just described for years and didn%26#39;t know that it is an actual dessert in Normandy. I love the sound of it!! We are visiting Normandy for 10 days in early october and will definitely try some!

You have to try the marzipan apples filled with Calvados. Most pastry shops in Bayeux carry them, and Bayeux is full of pastry shops. As far as pastries go, the Tarte Normande (apple pie) is the classic Normandy dessert. You may be a bit late in November, but if you have a chance to buy comice pears, don%26#39;t miss it!
