Hi - we are a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 8. We are going to Bois de Valmarie with Canvas late August. We are flying to pepignan airport and then are relying on public transport. Can anyone advise me of the best way of getting to the camp site and costs?

Bis de Valmarie is on Argeles sur Mer, where I shall be (at a different site) in June)I don;t drive so here%26#39;s what I have put together.
There is very little public transport in the area!
There are trains between Perpignan and Argeles but at rather irregular intervals; you can see the current timetable at this location

the summer timetable (which for the local trains isn%26#39;t much different) comes into operation early in July.
There are taxis at the station (I had to wait 20 minutes last visit though!) for the last leg of the journey to the campsite.
There are seven buses a day Perpignan - Argeles; timetable link below and again it is the current version. There are as I recall some buses on Sundays in summer

The good news is that once you get there, Argeles has an excellent network of those little tourist train things running every day from 9am to midnight linking all the campsites with the beaches and village centre. (You might also be able to use it to get to and from the station.)
Details at http://www.trainbus.fr/ in English also if needed.
Hope that helps; I will update this information following my visit in a couple of weeks.

We returned from Bois de Valmarie last weekend. We travelled there by Eurostar and TGV and decided not to rent a car.
It was hard relying on public transport. As the post above says, there are infrequent buses to Perpignan and along the coast. The tourist train is Ok in theory, but is expensive and quite unreliable as it gets stuck in the horrendous traffic in Argeles Plage.
I like exploring, so was disappointed by the lack of public transport, but hired a bike which was great for visiting the local area. There are great cycle paths.
Lack of transport made us enjoy the things to hand and have a relaxing holiday, but if we go again, we%26#39;ll hire a car, I think!

Yes I hired a bike while I was there also. The whole place is just about flat, which makes the going easy.
The transport situation is as described. I don%26#39;t go in high season but even in June the traffic was very heavy and on the main roads it is all day, 24 hours, continuous traffic noise. Check out your campsite location and make sure it is far away from the D914 road in particular!
There are buses between Banyuls, Argeles and Perpignan on Sundays in July and August.
However, if you wish to explore inland and venture more than a short distance towards the mountains a car is essential.
